Seminar "The Punjab Problems and Its Solution"
Exactly Two Months before the Operation Blue Star in 1984, a Seminar under the Nomenclature, " The Punjab Problems and Its Solution" was conducted by The Punjab Council of Social and Culture Affairs in April 1984 at Jalandhar. The main participants were:- Dr. J.S. Grewal, Vice-Chancellor G.N.D.U. Amritsar, Sh. S.C. Nanda, Principal, Sh. Sat Paul Mittal, M.P., Sh. Manmohan Kalia, Former Minister, Punjab & State General Secretary, BJP Punjab and S. Jagjit Singh Anand, Ex. M.P. and Editor, Nawan Zamana. The Presidential Remarks were given by S. Swaran Singh, Former External Affairs Minister.
Sardar Swaran Singh, Formerly External Affairs Minister, in his presidential remarks said," However, the happy part of it is that barring a few minor differences all the parties are practically at one with each other regarding the basic issues. All the practically agreed that in Punjab the mutual ties of brotherhood between the Hindus and the Sikhs must over remain intact......... It is in the interest of Punjab as also of the Country that effort should be made to find a negotiated settlement on the basis of Justice and equity".
The views expressed in the Seminar by different personality was published in the form of a Booklet, " THE PUNJAB PROBLEMS AND ITS SOLUTION" which was released on May 15, 1984. I happen to find the said Booklet from the piles of old Documents. The said Booklet itself is a 36 years old document.
I am delineating the views expressed by my Father Late Sh. Manmohan Kalia, Former Minister Punjab in the said Seminar in installments on my Face-book every Sunday under the Heading, " From the window of History".
